July 9, 2021: Dr. Enrique Lara, Co-Principal Investigator of the Myxotropic Proyect, has participated in an international study on protist taxonomic and functional diversity in soil, freshwater and marine ecosystems. In this study, it has been demonstrated that soils host the richest protist communities on Earth, compared to freshwater and marine ecosystems. Although all ecosystem types contain a myriad of undescribed protist species, this is especially true in soils, making it necessary to increase sampling effort in soils from less prospected regions, as the Project Myxotropic has done since its beginning.
