December 1, 2021: A new nivicolous myxomycete species, Didymium pseudonivicola, has just been described as result of a comprehensive study of numerous Didymium nivicola samples collected from its entire range of distribution. In this paper, published by members of the Project Myxotropic in Mycologia, it has been proved that the new species distinguishes from its sister by having unique morphological and molecular features. Moreover, it occurs only in the austral Andes of Argentina and Chile, while D. nivicola is worldwide distributed. If you want to know more about this largely misidentified neotropical species, have a look here.
